The Evergreen State is home to 6.2 million Americans and the number grows by 81,700 each year, all newborns. Thirteen percent of all Washington residents do not have a health plan and many others don't have enough to cover their medical expenses. As there is such a wide range of health insurance policies and add-ons available, people living in Washington have a good chance of finding the plan that is right for them.

Health Facts in Washington

A lack of health insurance is hardest on Washington's most vulnerable residents. About 29 percent of new mothers in Washington don't get the prenatal care they need to ensure a healthy, safe delivery. Consequently, more than 5000 babies, or about 6 percent are born each year with a low birth weight and another 10 percent are born prematurely. Only 77 percent of children under the age of 3 get the immunizations they need, 11 percent of kids between the ages of 10 and 17 are overweight and 40 percent didn't get to see both a dentist and a primary care physician last year. A simple health insurance plan would cover most of the above expenses.
