Tennessee allows insurance companies to deny coverage because you have a health problem. The exception are HIPAA eligible applicants, they are guaranteed coverage. Check with your state insurance department for details on eligibility requirements. Pre-existing conditions can be temporarily excluded with the imposition of a maximum exclusion period of two years, or permanently excluded with the use of an elimination rider. HIPAA eligible individuals are exempted from all exclusions. Pregnancy qualifies as a pre-existing condition. There are no regulations limiting premium prices. The state prohibits cancellation of your policy because you become sick.
