Premera Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alaska (Premera BCBSAK)

If you are living in Alaska, over 187,000 of your neighbors already get their health insurance from Premera (as of 2009). Recently, in October of 2005, Premera BCBS of Alaska expanded their services to better provide you with exactly the coverage you want. Additional services include maternity, higher lifetime maximums, and qualified HSAs.

Premera’s mission is to provide you with as much information as possible so that you can make the informed decision on what is best for you, empowering you to get the best care possible. Part of their ability to give you relevant information stems from their recognition that you are unique and come with a specific set of needs. Premera will work to satisfy you, whatever your reasons for needing individual health insurance – and at an affordable price.

PBCBS AK Individual Health Plans

Alaska Value Care 25

Offers a choice from two annual deductibles, a maximum annual coinsurance of $1,500-$2,500 per individual, and savings when you use Heritage network providers who have contracted to accept PBCBS payments. You can see out-of-network providers, but at a higher out-of-pocket expense to you. There is limited office visit coverage but a lower annual premium in this plan.

Alaska Best Care 20

Provides four deductible options to choose from, 20% coinsurance, and $5,000 maximum for individuals. The best benefits come when you choose Heritage network health care providers. There is a wide range of benefits, including prescription drug coverage.

Alaska Global 50 and Global 20

Both of these plans have several levels of annual deductible. Global 50 provides 50% coinsurance after the deductible is met, while Global 20 provides 20% coinsurance. There is a wide range of benefits in both plans.

Alaska HSA 20

Combines with a high deductible health plan. You have a choice between two deductibles for the year and will receive the most out-of-pocket savings by seeking care from network health providers. The Health Savings Account is a tax advantaged means of paying for health insurance. You open the account and deposit pre-taxed money which is used for paying the annual deductible and other allowable medical expenses. Any unused money is allowed to remain in the account and grows tax-deferred, similar to an IRA.

Alaska HSA Rx 20

Comes with a $1250 annual deductible and coverage similar to the above plan. The Health Savings Account is the same also.

Temporary Health Care Plans

Provided for individuals only needing health insurance for a short time, from 30 days to 6 months.

Long Term Care Insurance

Offers financial help when an extended illness or injury occurs. The Comprehensive Plan comes with no restrictions on where the care is provided, whether in your home or at a facility. The Facility Only plan provides benefits for care in a qualified facility. The Community Only plan gives benefits when the person is not in a facility.

Premera BCBS of Alaska is an independent licensee of BCBS Association.
