Pennsylvania Health Facts

The need for a strong health insurance policy starts before life begins. Almost 23 percent of new mothers-to-be in Pennsylvania do not receive the prenatal care that is necessary for a healthy pregnancy. Because of this, more than 11,800 babies are born each year with a low birth weight, 8 percent of all newborns. Almost 12 percent are born prematurely and 19 percent don't receive the immunizations they need to receive incrementally over the first three years of life. Thirteen percent of kids between the ages of 10 and 17 are overweight and 33 percent did not get to see both a dentist and a doctor last year. With the most basic health insurance plan, these costs and more and easily covered.

Health Insurance Needs in Pennsylvania

In Pennsylvania, chronic common problems are best treated when caught early with checkups: 8 percent of Pennsylvanian adults have diabetes, 12 percent have asthma, 59 percent are obese or overweight and 23 percent smoke. With the preventative measures covered by a health insurance plan, you can treat these conditions and keep them from turning into more serious conditions. Don't wait. Get your free health insurance quote today.

Pennsylvania allows insurance companies to deny you coverage due to a health problem, with the exception of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Pennsylvania which must guarantee you coverage. Pre-existing conditions may be temporarily excluded with the imposition of a maximum exclusion period of three years or permanently with the use of an elimination rider. The exception to this rule is applicants who are HIPAA eligible; they can not be temporarily or permanently excluded due to pre-existing conditions.

Check with your state insurance department for eligibility requirements. Pregnancy and genetic information qualify as pre-existing conditions. There are regulations limiting the premium prices of guaranteed plans, but none that regulate non-guaranteed plans. Your policy can never be cancelled because you become sick.
