Individual
Health Insurance in North Dakota (ND)
The Peace Garden State is home to almost 618,000 people. Each year, the population grows by at least 8100 from new births. A beautiful state, the ugly truth is that 12 percent of North Dakotans don't enjoy the protection of a health insurance plan. However, with just a few clicks of the mouse, it's possible to find a health insurance policy that will suit your needs and your wallet.
North Dakota Health Statistics
Starting before they are born, kids without health insurance are going without the healthcare they need. Almost 15 percent of all new mothers-to-be in the state do not get the prenatal care they need early in their pregnancies. This means that more than 500 babies are born each year with a low birth weight, almost 7 percent of all newborns. Another 12 percent are born prematurely and 16 percent don't get the immunizations they need to stay healthy during the long, cold winters. Twelve percent of North Dakotans between the ages of 10 and 17 are overweight and only 49 percent saw both a dentist and a doctor last year, one of the lowest rates in the country. A basic healthcare plan would go far toward demolishing these unnerving statistics.

North Dakota Health Insurance Laws
North Dakota law allows insurance companies
to deny coverage due to a health problem. Applicants that
have been denied coverage, and those that are HIPAA eligible,
can purchase a plan from the Comprehensive Health Association
of North Dakota (CHAND). Pre-existing conditions can be temporarily
excluded with the imposition of a maximum exclusion period
of 12 months, or permanently with the use of an elimination
rider. There are no regulations limiting premium prices. The
state prohibits cancellation of your policy if you become
sick.
