As many as 5.7 million live and work in the Show Me State, raising their families as proud Missourians. Another 77,700 are born into the fold each year. Unfortunately, 13 percent of everyone in Missouri do not have any health insurance at all. The good news is that with all the options available in the health insurance field today, there's no reason why every last person in Missouri can't join the ranks of the insured.

Missouri Health Facts

Health insurance is as important in the first months of conception as it is in the first years of life, if not more so. Sadly, 12 percent of Missouri's mothers-to-be don't receive the prenatal care they need in early pregnancy. This results in 6400 babies born with low birth weight every year, more than 8 percent of all newborns. Another 13 percent are born prematurely and 20 percent miss out on the immunizations that they should receive during the first three years of life. Sixteen percent of children between the ages of 10 and 17 are classified as obese and only 56 percent visited both a dentist and a doctor last year.

Missouri Health Insurance Laws

Missouri law allows insurance companies to deny you coverage if you have a health problem. Applicants who are denied coverage can seek assistance from the Montana Comprehensive Health Program. Pre-existing conditions can be temporarily excluded for a maximum period of 12 months, or permanently excluded with the use of an elimination rider. There are no regulations limiting premium prices.
