Kaiser Foundation of the Northwest

A wholly owned subsidiary of Kaiser Permanente, the Kaiser Foundation of the Northwest serves nearly 500,000 members in the states of Oregon and Washington. Founded in 1942 as a separate entity under the control of Kaiser Permanente, this regional organization now consists of the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of the Northwest, Kaiser Foundation Hospitals, Northwest Permanente, and Group Health Permanente. It currently is the only Kaiser Permanente organization that offers dental benefits.

As a part of Kaiser Permanente, Kaiser Foundation of the Northwest is a part of the largest non-profit, health maintenance organization or HMO in the US. Each of the regional groups is an integrated, pre-paid health delivery system. The entire range of care for their members is provided and coordinated through their system, including doctors, hospitals, and pharmacies.

Kaiser Foundation of the Northwest Health Insurance Coverage

• There is a strong emphasis on preventive care and healthy lifestyle choices. Immunizations are covered, as well as screening diagnostics

• Well baby and prenatal care are fully covered

• Pharmacy services are available, with prescriptions filled from a list approved by Kaiser’s review board

• Routine visits are covered, with small co-pays. There are no claim forms to fill out

• Emergency care is available

• There are a wide number of educational resources available to the patient

• Members can choose from a large network of doctors, pharmacies and hospitals

• An HSA plan is available, offering a combination of a high deductible plan and a tax advantaged health savings plan

From the beginning, Kaiser has emphasized preventive care and a close doctor - patient relationship. At Kaiser, the patient is informed about all options for care and is encouraged to take an active role in medical decisions.
