There are 12.6 million Americans living in Illinois today and this number grows with each of the 180,000+ babies who are born here each year. Unfortunately, 14 percent of Illinois is uninsured. This, however, is easily remedied: just take advantage of one of hundreds of flexible health policies available.

Health Statistics in Illinois

More than 14 percent of new mothers in Illinois don't receive the prenatal care they need to ensure a healthy, happy pregnancy. Consequently, more than 15,000 babies are born each year with a low birth weight, more than 8 percent of all newborns. Another 13 percent are born preterm. 15 percent of children under the age of 3 won't receive the immunizations recommended by the American Medical Association. With a basic health insurance policy, costs to eliminate these issues would be minimal.

Illinois Health Insurance Needs

Adults, too, aren't receiving the healthcare they need. Almost 8 percent of Illinoisans are diagnosed with diabetes and 34 percent report poor mental health. More than 10 percent have asthma, 20 percent smoke and 58 percent are obese or overweight. Almost 30 percent of adults over the age of 25 didn't get their teeth cleaned last year and 14 percent have disabilities that require care. For every 100,000 people in Illinois, more than 450 have invasive cancer and another 200 die from it each year.

It's imperative that Illinois families get the healthcare they need in the form of preventative measures and checkups as well as maintenance for current conditions in order to keep them from getting worse.
