Florida is home to more than 17.9 million people and 218,000 more are born each year. Unfortunately, more than 3.7 million Floridians are without a health insurance plan. With the wide range of health insurance options available to you, there's no reason why every Floridian can't join the ranks of the insured.
Florida Health Statistics
More than 12 percent of Florida's mother don't get to their obstetrician in their first trimester and consequently, a number of problems occur more often than they should: 18,600 babies are born with a low birth weight. That's 8 percent of all newborns. Another 13 percent are born prematurely and 19 percent don't get the immunization shots they need.
Growing children are in peril as well. Fourteen percent are obese or overweight and 46 percent did not get both a doctor's and dentist's appointment last year. These statistics would be drastically changed if everyone in Florida enjoyed health insurance.

Health Insurance Laws in Florida
Florida law allows insurance companies to deny you coverage. If you are HIPAA eligible, you are guaranteed an individual policy from a private insurer. Pre-existing conditions can be excluded but only for a maximum period of two years, unless the insurance company attaches a rider, in which case, the exclusion can be made permanent. There are no regulations limiting premium costs. The state prohibits cancellation of your policy if you become sick.
