Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas (BCBSKS)

If you live outside of Kansas City and are looking for individual health insurance, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas provides the benefits that almost a third of the state’s residents prefer. With the trusted history and financial security of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield name, the majority of the state’s doctors and almost 100% of acute-type hospitals are in the BCBS of KS network of providers.

BCBS of KS has many types of plans from which to choose. Some of the plans vary according to the Kansas county in which you live.

BC/BS of KS Individual Health Insurance Plans

AffordaBlue Plan

Offers the outstanding PPO/Preferred Provider Organization network of doctors at an affordable price, with a choice of deductible levels and co-insurance amounts. It includes catastrophic and preventive needs with additional optional coverages as well.

BasicBlue Plan

Provides the BCBSKS PPO network for your medical, surgical and hospital needs. The plan includes a choice of three deductibles, as well as optional features and prescription drug discounts. To save on costs, office visits and outpatient prescriptions are not covered.

Blue by Design HSA Plan

Combines a high-deductible health insurance plan with a Health Savings Account. Here, qualified individuals open an HSA and use the pre-tax money to pay for covered medical expenses. The high-deductible health plans have lower annual premiums and include the PPO network savings associated with comprehensive major medical.

Blue Choice Plan

A PPO/Preferred Provider Organization which allows you to use the network of BCBS of Kansas professionals and also gives you freedom to choose an out-of-network provider for a higher cost.

Comprehensive Major Medical

Offers three choices on deductibles, so you can position an affordable annual premium. It includes the medical, surgical, and hospital coverages that you need for your comprehensive health services.

Shared Pay Comprehensive Plan

Provides health insurance without a yearly deductible and pays 50% of all covered services from the first day. You make use of the PPO network of BCBSKS health care providers for additional savings. Premiums vary mostly according to the maximum out-of-pocket expense you choose.

Short Term Medical Plans

Provides health insurance for one to six months of coverage. It is necessary for people between jobs, early retirees, temporary workers, recent graduates – anyone who might need health coverage for only a short time.

Plan 65

Provides Medicare supplemental insurance for those qualifying with Medicare Parts A and B. It fills in the gaps left by Medicare.

Cancer Policy (Plan 150)

Offers supplemental help with costs associated with cancer treatment at $150 per day for inpatient treatment and $50 per day for outpatient. It provides cash benefits to be used as the individual sees fit.
